Around 2008, we were contacted by production manager Lee Alliston regarding a Bollywood comedy-drama that was set to be filmed in and around Newcastle called Hum Tum Aur Ghost.

As we had never worked on a Bollywood production before, I was intrigued. Our first meeting took place at our Newcastle offices, where the casting director arrived to meet and select extras. We had dozens of people waiting when, two hours later, the production entourage arrived. I was not familiar with Bollywood cinema at the time, so I was surprised when two young girls waiting to be cast began screaming like “super fans.”

It was then I realised that Arshad Warsi, the film’s lead actor and producer, was a major star. He was looking for dancers for vibrant musical numbers and hundreds of extras to line the streets of Newcastle for various outdoor scenes. One particular highlight was a car crash filmed on Grey Street; it was fascinating to observe the skill, time management, and precision required for such a production.

This experience remains a truly memorable highlight of my career
