According to the Telegraph, “1 in 3 young adults in the UK now have a tattoo” and it’s estimated that “1 in 5 of the UK population as a whole is tattooed.”

With these figures on the rise, the question on the minds of many professionals in the fashion and modelling industry is ‘are tattoos just a passing trend, similar to that we saw two generations ago or are tattoos here to stay?’

Although we can’t predict the future, we’d guess (and hope) the latter!

Can I model?

Before signing to the agency we get a lot of people asking us questions about tattoos. How will tattoos effect my work? Will I loose out on jobs because I have tattoos? Can I be a model if I have tattoos?

The answer: don’t worry! We get a lot of clients asking for tattoos and never forget – whatever our clients want, they get! Besides — there are always tools to work around the tattoos — the notorious Photoshop for example.

Inked Icons

Whilst in the past the idea of a model with tattoos would have been unimaginable, in recent years we’ve seen more and more models sporting the pigmented designs and in turn the modelling industry’s ideals of what is acceptable have changed.

Thanks to high-end fashion models such as Cara Delevigne, Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen to quirky faces such as Miles Langford and “Zombie Boy” Rick Genest, tattoos are slowly beginning to lose their stigma.

Where do we stand?

Although some professionals are becoming less prejudice towards tattoos, it is unlikely that they are ever going to be everyone’s cup of tea. Just like other bold features, tattoos are a bit like marmite — you either love ‘em or hate ‘em, so don’t be disheartened if you can’t please everyone.

Here at Tyne Tees models we love to see our faces expressing themselves and bringing their personality to the role. We take on a lot of talent with tattoos and we can secure jobs for those who have them!
